Refund and Cancellation

How the 30-day first-payment guarantee works, how to cancel, and what happens to your history.

Effective October 25, 2026

30-day first-payment guarantee

If you pay Watchtower for the first time, you can ask for a full refund of that first paid charge within 30 days of the charge. The guarantee is once per household. It covers the first invoice Stripe marks paid for that household. It does not cover later renewals.

The trial does not use this guarantee. Canceling during the 14-day trial means you are not charged, so there is nothing to refund.

How to request a refund

There is no refund button in the app. Email legal@watchtower.money from the household owner's account email. Tell us the household and that you want the first-payment refund. We process eligible requests in the Stripe Dashboard: a full refund of that first charge, and we cancel the subscription immediately.

Stripe sends the money back to the original payment method. That usually shows up in about 5 to 10 business days. That timing is Stripe's, not a Watchtower clock.

What the guarantee does not cover

Renewals are not in the guarantee. We may refund a later charge as a courtesy. That is discretionary and does not reset the once-per-household rule.

A partial refund of the first charge does not count as using the guarantee. A full refund of that first charge does, even if you later subscribe again.

Effect on access

After a guarantee refund and cancel, the household becomes read-only. You can still see history while the household exists. You cannot edit, sync, or connect another bank until you subscribe again. Bank connections are removed. History is kept. The guarantee cannot be used again.

If you subscribe later, there is no second trial. You reconnect banks yourself. Matching accounts can reattach to the history you already have.

Cancellation (not a refund)

The household owner can cancel in the app: Settings → Billing, which opens Stripe. Cancel takes effect at the end of the current trial or paid period. You keep full access until then. You can reverse the cancel in Stripe until that date.

Canceling does not refund time already paid, except where the first-payment guarantee applies. After the period ends, history stays read-only and bank connections are removed.

Deleting the household

If the owner deletes the household, we cancel the Stripe subscription immediately. There is no proration refund for unused time. Accounts, transactions, and budgets are deleted as part of that deletion. That is different from stopping payment, which keeps history.

Law that may give you more

If a law where you live requires a longer cooling-off period or a different refund right, that law controls to the extent it applies. Email legal@watchtower.money and we will handle the request as that law requires.
